12-hr outage in Lohia hosp, patients squirm
LUCKNOW: Lucknow Power supply to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital campus was snapped on Saturday due to a cable fault, resulting in major trouble to patients admitted there.
Due to cable fault, power from even the generators could not reach half of the hospital that remained in darkness till late evening. Children were seen crying in the scorching heat, while women patients who had undergone surgery were sweating and in great discomfiture due to lack of fresh air.
“The cable fault occurred due to overload. Orders were given immediately to repair the fault,” said DS Negi, hospital’s chief medical superintendent.
“The fans stopped working at around 8.30 am in the morning, then the lights went off and we had to depend on the windows for fresh air. But this was not sufficient as there are more than a dozen patients and their attendants in the ward,” said an attendant.
The fault could not be repaired till late evening and as a result half of the hospital remained in the dark. Though operation theatres had power supply, the emergency ward remained dark and doctors had to use their cell phone lights to work. Power supply was restored at around 7.30 pm.
Mother of Manu, a child admitted to the hospital, fanned her kid with her saree for a couple of hours. Several other women had to do the same.
