After CM’s intervention, aid pours in for man with blind daughters
LAKHIMPUR KHERI: For Surendra Chaurasia meeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the ‘janta darbar’ organised at 5 KD Marg in Lucknow on Saturday proved to be a turning point as aid started pouring in for the poor man who sought help for his two blind daughters.
After hearing Surendra’s plea, who was accompanied by his daughters Shubhi, 4, and Mamta, 3, both of whom cannot see by birth, the CM gave directions to the officials to help the man.
Surendra hails from Jugnupur village, Dhaurahra tehsil in Kheri. Surendra had met the CM earlier on April 29 and requested for help as besides his two daughters, his son Monu, 5, and another daughter Shanti, 7, too suffered from eyesight problems.
He had to take his children for regular check up to an ophthalmologist once in six months, which he could not afford.
After hearing his plea, CM Yogi assured him of help by May 19. However, when nothing happened till the deadline, Surendra met the CM again on Saturday following which Kheri authorities came into action.
After CM’s intervention, Kheri authorities rushed to Jugnupur to the aid of Surendra and his family.
Kheri district magistrate Akashdeep sought a detailed report from Dhaurahra SDM about the financial status of Surendra.
Sub-divisional magistrate Ram Prakash, while talking to Hindustan Times, confirmed the very poor financial condition of Surendra.
“Surendra, father of four children including two blind daughters, is living below poverty line (BPL) with no house or agricultural land.”
He added that ‘partition in his joint family in Jugnupur further aggravated his condition and he had to live in Fatehpur, a hamlet of Jugnupur,” he told Hindustan Times.
Living in acute penury, Surendra supports his family working as a ‘chaprasi’ at a private school for Rs 2000 per month that is inadequate to take care of family expenses.
On seeing Surendra’s genuine case sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Ram Prakash said, “Surendra’s family has now been covered under food security programme with the issuance of a ration card while a house under government’s welfare scheme has been recommended for his family. Moreover, aid from UP chief minister’s discretionary funds has also been recommended.”
Following the aid, Surendra and his family are all praise for the chief minister.
