Girls says no to marriage after lewd remarks by groom’s friends

-

Allowing his allegedly drunken friends to pass vulgar remarks against his would-be wife and her friends cost a groom his marriage as the bride refused to go ahead with ‘jaymaal’ ritual. The incident took place at Basantpatti village under Rohania police station in the district. The bride refused to marry after her repeated requests to the groom to stop his friends from doing so fell on deaf ears.

Police said the bride’s firm decision irked the groom and his friends so much that they started throwing plates.

This led to a fight between the members of the marriage party and kin of the bride. Angry ‘baratis’ also damaged some bikes and broke chairs, the police added.

The police said some locals informed them about the incident. Soon they reached the spot. Elderly villagers tried to mediate but the bride was adamant. She also alleged that even the groom was in an inebriated condition.

As per the police, Chhunna Chauhan of Basantpatti Mohan Sarai recently fixed his daughter’s marriage with Santu Chauhan’s son Jagran of Daharupur, Mirzapur.

As per the plan, the marriage party arrived in the village on Sunday evening.

The members of the party were given a rousing welcome followed by many pre-marriage rituals, the police said.

As ‘jaymaal’ ritual began, a few friends of the groom passed some lewd comments on the bride and her friends. This irked the bride who asked the groom to stop them but in vain. The police said the kin of the bride alleged that the groom’s friends were in inebriated state.

Later both sides decided to hold a meeting at police station to find a solution. On Monday, a meeting was held.

Circle officer Sneha Tiwari said the two sides returned gifts after the meeting as the girl refused to give a second thought to her decision.

A case could not be registered in this regard because neither of the two sides filed a complaint, she added.
