Prajapati’s two aides surrender before court

Two aides of Gayatri Prajapati, former mining minster in the Samajwadi Party government, surrendered before the court of additional district judge on Tuesday.

Vikas Varma and Amrendra Singh alias ‘Pintu Singh’ are facing charges of gang-rape along with Prajapati.

It may be pointed out that Om Prakash Mishra, additional sessions judge having the additional charge of POCSO court, on April 25, had granted bail to Prajapati.

However, Prajapati was not released from prison as cops had sought his judicial remand in two other cases, which was allowed by the court. But his two associates Vikas Varma and Pintu Singh were released on bail.

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court on April 28 had stayed the bail of Prajapati in the gang-rape case on an application of the state government.

Passing the judgment, chief justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosle also directed the police to take two other accused into custody. The chief justice had also suspended the special judge for passing the bail order in haste. Since then, Singh and Varma were absconding.

The state government had moved high court against the bail of Prajapati and his two associates.
