Galouti kababs off the Tunday Kababi menu again
The city’s iconic eatery, Tunday Kababi, has once again withdrawn the sale of its world famous galouti kababs (made from buffalo meat), leaving food lovers here a dejected lot.
The owner of the joint cited difficulty in procuring raw meat as the main reason behind his decision. “It has been decided that the sale of buffalo meat galouti kababs will start once availability of meat is normalised. We don’t want to cut a sorry figure before our customers,” said an associate of Tunday Kababi. Both the outlets of the eatery - in Chowk and in Nazirabad - have withdrawn the kababs.
To recall, in March, this year, Tunday Kababi had replaced its traditional galouti kababs with chicken kababs. This was a first in the 112-year history of the eatery. The decision was taken as the supply of buffalo meat suffered in wake of the state government’s crackdown on illegal and mechanised slaughterhouses.
Then after a gap of over seven weeks, in mid-May, the joint had again started selling its melt-inyour-mouth galouti kababs. Similarly, other outlets too restarted the sale of buffalo meat cuisines.
The retraction, coming barely a week after the reintroduction of the kababs, has disappointed many. On a regular day, around 80kg of meat is consumed at the Nazirabad outlet.
