Nonbailable arrest warrants against 8 Tamil Nadu actors

A local court in Ooty in Tamil Nadu issued non-bailable warrants against eight actors after they repeatedly failed to appear in a defamation case filed against them by a journalist.

The actors, including Sarathkumar, Suriya and Sripriya, gave Tuesday’s hearing a miss like on previous occasion on May 15. Posting the case for June 17, Ooty judicial magistrate Senthilkumar Rajavel issued non-bailable warrants against actors Sarathkumar,Sathyaraj,Cheran, Suriya, Vijayakumar, Vivek, Arun Vijay and Sripriya.

The actors had allegedly insulted a leading Tamil newspaper and its journalist who reported on prostitution in Tamil film industry. These actors had condemned the article and spoke out against the journal in 2009.

Senior journalist Rozario Mariya Susai filed a complaint against the actors for defamation.
