LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has accused a construction agency (which is executing some work for UPSRTC) of causing a crack in one of the pillars in front of the Alambagh bus station.

According to LMRC MD Kumar Keshav , “It has been observed by Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) in the last week that the cracks developed at the Alambagh bus stand Metro station were caused as a result of deep excavation in an unsafe manner by the builder for constructing an integrated bus stand-cum- commercial space having basements near the Metro station.”

The cracks have appeared in the brick work of the entry/exit to the station. Luckily, no crack has been observed in the reinforced concrete cement (RCC) structure till now but if the unsafe excavation continues, then anything can happen.

According to MD LMRC , “The Lucknow Metro had already brought the matter to the notice of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and had pointed out that owing to insufficient permanent protection measures taken by the agency/contractor executing the work, the situation is now in a very critical stage and the pillar in front of bus station can collapse if remedial measures are not taken.”

The LMRC further asked UPSRTC to take remedial measures on an urgent basis on a war footing.

UPSRTC’s managing director’s personal intervention was also requested in the matter.

In the past, a joint note was signed between the construction agency and LMRC wherein the former was required to level the land, construct grade slab, and pack retaining wall and balance gap of the station with MS concrete, which it did not follow.

The builder was also supposed to construct retaining wall up to lift, carry out shoring work up to temple and construct toe wall above contiguous pile beam up to 250 mm from the existing ground level by the agreed date/deadline.

Jacking of two Nagar Nigam manholes and chamber covering of all manholes was, however, required to be done by the LMRC.
