On being told about her result by HT, Neha said, “I just cannot believe this. I knew that I will do well in the examination. But I never thought that I will top in the examination.” Her sister is also a teacher in a school and Neha got inspiration from her to shape the life of a new generation.
Second topper Alok Kumar Singh is also from Allahabad. He postgraduated from Gorakhpur University. “I wanted to become teacher because it is a noble profession. Each and every member of the family is engaged in government job and I decided to take up a different job,” Alok said.
This year a record high number of more than 4 lakh candidates took the examination against last year’s 3.03 lakh students, an official said. As many as 4,15,415 candidates had appeared in the examination of which results of 4,15,407 candidates were declared. Results of 8 candidates were held back as they were caught using unfair means (cheating).
The entrance test was held at 905 centres in 16 cities across Uttar Pradesh on May 3.
“The number of applicants had jumped from last year’s 3 lakh to 4 lakh in a year’s time is an indicator that love for the noble profession of teaching is on the rise in the state. With seventh pay commission, the salary of government school teachers have increased manifold that drew a lot of interest among job seekers to take to the teaching profession,” an LU official said.
The proposed date of counselling is June 6. Candidates would be able to download their counselling letters from June 1. The counselling would be held at 33 centres in 16 cities.
Candidates will have to appear in the counselling with original and a xerox copy of their counselling letter, admit card, application form, photo ID, four photographs, candidate declaration form, graduation marksheet of final year, high school and intermediate mark sheets, documents for claimed weightage (if any) and category certificate.
The tentative list of colleges has been uploaded on the Lucknow University website. As per the information available on the basis of details received from various universities, the number of colleges is 1,736 and the number of seats available is 1,46,500, said Prof Naveen Khare.
