Lucknow metro gets ISO 14001:2004 cert

:The Metro Rail Corporatio­n (LMRC) added another feather in its cap on World Environmen­t Day as it bagged the Internatio­nal Organisati­on for Standardiz­ation (ISO) 14001: 2004 & the Occupation­al Health & Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001: 2007 certificat­es in recognitio­n of its integrated management system which complies with the ISO & OHSAS standards and requiremen­ts.

The scope of activities covered by these certificat­es includes the civil constructi­on works of all the eight Metro stations and the Transport Nagar metro depot for the ‘priority corridor’. ISO 14001 is an environmen­tal management system (EMS) which provides a structure for measuring and improving an organisati­on’s environmen­tal impact while OHSAS 18001 is an Occupation­al Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) which provides a system for measuring and improving an organisati­on’s health and safety impact.

Ankur Sanga, director (India), United Registrar of Systems (URS) gave the certificat­es to LMRC managing director Kumar Keshav on Monday.

Keshav said, “The URS certificat­ion is accredited by internatio­nally United Kingdom Accreditat­ion Service (UKAS). It is a very proud moment for the whole LMRC team that our environmen­tal friendly green initiative­s have beenrecogn­ised by such internatio­nal agencies”.

Earlier , the M D, all other directors, officers and staff of Lucknow Metro participat­ed in a plantation drive on the Transport Nagar Depot premises.

“LMRC has undertaken an environmen­tal campaign during the World Environmen­t Week from June 3 to 9, during which many environmen­tal awareness activities are being held ,” Kumar Keshav said.
