Police personnel hand in glove with criminals to face the music

Facing flak over spurt in crime, the state police have decided to take action against police personnel who have failed to control crime. Cops who are also hand in glove with criminals are also on its radar.

A meeting of the senior police officers was held by DGP Sulkhan Singh on Monday, in which a work plan to check crime was discussed.

Addressing a press conference, IG (Law and Order) Hari Ram Sharma said the DGP directed the ADGs, IGPs, DIGs and SSPs to identify policemen who were involved in criminal activities or had links with criminals.

Departmental action would be initiated against the tainted policemen and they would be transferred to far flung districts, he said. The police officers were also told to prepare the list of the police personnel who are posted in the district in violation of the new transfer policy.

Taking serious view of complaints of illegal money collection by traffic police, the DGP directed the police officers to check it.

The officers were also told to ensure that traffic cops were dressed smartly and were alertwhile on duty. Vendors will also not be permitted to park their cart or vehicle within 25 metre radius of a crossing. The DGP directed the officers to check transportation and smuggling of cows for slaughter. National Security Act (NSA) and Gangster Act will be slapped on the smugglers caught transporting cow and ox for slaughter.

The superintendents of police were directed to prepare the list of the mafiosi and notorious criminals active in respective districts.

To check eve teasing and harassment of girls, women cops dressed in plain clothes will be deputed at public places. Officers were directed to launch a drive against land grabbers.
