Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Raj Babbar alleged on Monday that a conspiracy was being hatched to end the Congress ideology by breaking statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

But Congressmen would never let it succeed, he added.

Speaking at a dharna by Congress members in protest against breaking of Rajiv Gandhi’s idol at Awas Vikash colony in Mirzapur on intervening night of June 3 and June 4, the UPCC president said some people tried to end the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi by killing him, but they didn’t succeed in their plan.

He said similarly Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were murdered. “But their ideologies didn’t end. Ideology of the Congress will never come to an end. It was there, it is three and it will be there.”

He said ever since the new government had come to power in the state, this was happening in UP.

“Ealier the statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Ravidas were broken in Saharapur. Now the statue of Rajiv Gandhi. We are not only saddened, but also extremely angry over it,” he said.

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari said some people wanted to break the country, but the Congress would not let them succeed.

He also announced Rs 10 lakh from his MP fund for setting up a statue of Rajiv Gandhi.
