Another threat letter found at Allahabad HC
Police say the man who wrote the letters is allegedly mentally unstable
ALLAHABAD: A day after a letter was found at the Allahabad high court that said the court building would be blown up by ‘terrorists’ of Chhattisgarh, another letter was found at gate number 3 on Friday morning.
The police said the language of the letter was incoherent but it appeared to be a complaint regarding a property dispute.
A xerox copy of the identity proof of Abid Ali Siddiqui, a clerk engaged by an high court advocate, was also found with the letter.
Shahid Ali Siddiqui, brother of Abid Ali and an advocate at the high court, claimed that Abid was mentally unstable and he might have written the letter.
Additional superintendent of police, high court, Pankaj is investigating the matter.
Sources said when Shahid Ali was shown Thursday’s threat letter he said it was in Abid’s handwriting.
The letter, in Hindi, said ‘terrorists’ of Chhattisgarh have been given ₹50 crore to blow up the court.
The letter does not specify who gave the money to the ‘terrorists’.
Also, Chhattisgarh is known to be home to Naxals, not terrorists.
Security was tightened in the court and CCTV footage was scanned to identify the person who dropped the threat letter.
A seven-judge bench of the Allahabad high court, in suo motu proceedings last year, had directed the state government and security agencies to tighten security of the high court premises by deploying scanners on all the gates and by providing biometric cards to advocates so that no unauthorised person could enter the high court premises. However, till date not much progress has been made in this regard.
Efforts were being made to arrest Abid Ali and investigations were on to find out the motive behind planting the threat letters
