‘Alliance Française a gateway to France’

Friday turned out to be a memorable day for the students and teachers of Alliance Française de Lucknow, the first official Indo-French cultural centre in the state, when they got an opportunity to interact with the French ambassador to India on his visit to the institute at Stobart Hall, La Martinière College campus.

French envoy Alexandre Ziegler not only helped students explore jobs, business and study opportunities in France but also answered their queries. He also gave tips on learning French. “It’s not just an institute; it’s a gateway to France. It’s an opportunity to peep into its history, know about its culture, higher education system and a lot more,” said Ziegler.

In the interactive session, some students expressed willingness to move to France, while some said they joined the institute just to know more about France and to learn French. “The history and culture of France fascinate me,” said a student who is a dental surgeon.

Another student said he was learning the language as he planned to settle in France. Students also appreciated the teaching pattern of the institute.

“The faculty here uses different techniques like games and movies that are helpful in learning French. In a mere three weeks’ time, I am able to speak simple sentences and my vocabulary has improved,” said another student.

The institute has about 38 students for the courses it offers. It has recently started a programme of intensive summer courses. The registration for the next batch– the monsoon session starting July 1 for two months-- is underway.

Zohra Chatterji, president of Alliance Française de Lucknow said, “We are getting great response from the students, not only from the state capital but also from the neighbouring districts.”

Chatterji said there was a plan to set up Campus France from where those interested in higher studies could get all relevant information.
