MHRD nod to Urdu teachers for 350 Kasturba Gandhi schools
The union ministry of human resource development (MHRD) has sanctioned the appointment of Urdu teachers at 350 Kasturba Gandhi residential schools in Uttar Pradesh under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
The teachers will, however, be appointed only in schools located in development blocks having more than 20 per cent population of Muslims.
The proposal was approved in the meeting of MHRD’s project approval board on March 27 and the decision has been conveyed to basic shiksha adhikaris (BSAs) of all the districts by additional project director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, UP, Rajkumari Verma vide missive dated May 25.
The list of 350 schools allowed to appoint Urdu teachers has also been provided to the BSAs.
The move came after many Kasturba Gandhi residential schools started appointing Urdu teachers on contractual basis on their own.
After receiving reports that many teachers were pressing for extension of their contracts, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan headquarters issued orders in March-April 2017 instructing the schools not to extend the contracts until cleared by the MHRD. Following the approval, 350 schools of 53 districts in the state will be able to appoint Urdu teachers on contractual basis.
Presently, there are 746 Kasturba Gandhi schools in the state which provide free education to girl students from class 1 to 8.
The KGBV scheme was introduced in August 2004 under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme to impart education to girls belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, other backward classes, minority communities and families below the poverty line.
The objective of KGBV is to ensure quality education along with boarding facilities to girls of disadvantaged groups of society by setting up residential schools at elementary level.
