UP helpline soon for people’s complaints

LUCKNOW: The state government is in the process of setting up a toll-free helpline to encourage people to register complaints, especially those that haven’t been attended to for years.

The IT and electronics department made a presentation before chief minister Yogi Adityanath on the proposed helpline on Tuesday. The helpline is expected to get operational in a month’s time.

It is still unclear if the same helpline would also be used to get people to report corruption cases. Curbing graft was one of the major pre-poll promises of the BJP government and a helpline, monitored by the CM office, to report corruption was also mentioned in party’s manifesto.

“The CM wants to ensure that public complaints are disposed of in a time-bound manner. Already 30 show cause notices to district magistrates, senior superintendents of police have been issued for not disposing of public complaints,” an official said.

Virtually everyone—from district magistrates and police chiefs to lawmakers, ministers and even the chief minister— have been asked to encourage people to report their problems.

While the CM hears public complaints at Janata Durbar at his residence daily, his ministers sit at BJP office daily to hear grievances.

About 40,000 complaints including those of land grabbing, poor police response have been received so far at CM’s Janata Durbar.

Besides public representatives, the district magistrates and senior superintendents too have been asked to meet people from 9 am to 11 am.
