Security review for Ramzan processions
LUCKNOW: UP director general of police (DGP) Sulkhan Singh carried out an inspection in the Old City on Wednesday to review the security arrangements ahead of 19th and 21st Ramzan processions to be taken out on Thursday and Saturday respectively.
Heavy police force has been deployed to avert any trouble during the processions. The top cops are on the alert after intelligence report inputs that some people were planning to disturb the law and order situation during the processions.
The DGP along with ADG Lucknow zone Abhay Prasad and IG Lucknow range JN Singh inspected the entire route chart of the procession and security measures in place. Later in the day, SSP Deepak Kumar and DM Kaushal Raj Sharma conducted flag march on the entire procession route along with armed police personnel.
The flag march was conducted to showcase the preparedness to counter troublemakers and ensure peace in the city. The march covered nearly eight kilometres covering different roads, lanes and by-lanes of Chowk, Bazarkhala, Thakurganj and Saadatganj areas.
The police and the administration are focusing on security as sectarian clash occurred during the similar processions in 2014. The violence broke out between two sects of the Muslim community after stone pelting on the 21st Ramzan procession by some mischievous elements. At least 30 people sustained minor injuries in the brick batting and police used force to chase away troublemakers at different places.
