ALLAHABAD: The UP Board has started documenting details of absent students in the recently conducted 2017 high school and intermediate examinations. The move will reduce litigation for the Board that directed schools to upload details of its absentee examinees on its official website.

Over 5.94 lakh students out of 60 lakh were absent in this year’s examination largely due to strict anti-copying measures. Details of over 80 per cent such students already been uploaded by schools on the Board’s website. The remaining schools have been told to expedite the process.

Confirming this, UP Board secretary Shail Yadav told HT, “On several occasions we noticed students did not appear for a particular subject that they found tough. However, after results were declared, they claimed to have appeared for the subject and blamed the board for misplacing their answer sheets. Many such examinees even filed court cases against the Board, which in the absence of proper documentation made it difficult for us to defend.”

According to the secretary, initiatives for maintaining transparency in Board’s funchave tioning are regularly being initiated. “We have also directed all District Inspector of Schools (DIoS) to ensure linking of Aadhar Card of all class 9 and 11 students who will be registered for 2019 high school and intermediate board examinations. This would also help weed out copying mafia from the examinations. We uploaded records of examinees of the past 10 years while introducing online registration in class 9 and 11 in 2015. This led to reduction of around 8 lakh examinees this year as compared to last year,” said Yadav.

OVER 5.94 LAKH STUDENTS OUT OF 60 LAKH WERE ABSENT IN THIS YEAR’S EXAMINATION LARGELY DUE TO STRICT ANTICOPYING MEASURES.
