Only Modi government gives due regard to Ambedkar: CM
GORAKHPUR: Referring to the Modi government’s move to declare Ambedkar memorials at five places as Panchteertha, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said none except Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave due regard to Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar in last 70 years.
“None, including the Congress, BSP and the SP, worked to honour Panchteertha. The only party which works to honour Panchteertha is BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Yogi said.
He was addressing a public meeting in Campierganj’s Harnampur village, where he unveiled an Ambedkar statue and later attended a Sahbhoj (group meal) with the Dalits.
The move to woo the Dalit community came amid rising number of inter-caste clashes, including those between the Dalits and the Thakurs in Saharanpur last month.
Five places associated with Ambedkar, like Ambedkar’s birth place in Mhow, Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur where he took education, Mahaparinirvan sthal in Delhi-- has been recently declared as Panchteertha by the BJP-led NDA government .
The CM also said Ambedkar had once opined that demonetisation was an effective way to root out corruption. He said no other government in the last 70 years dared to scrap high value notes to check graft.
He said introduction of Bheem app (after the name of Ambedkar) by the government to promote cashless transaction was another attempt by the centre to honour the Dalit leader.
Over 25000 people from SC/ST community were benefitted by the centre’s initiatives as centralised banks provided them loans for personal ventures, Yogi said.
Praising Modi for his ‘Sabka sath sabka vikas’, the CM said the state government too was working for the pooor, youths, farmers and women.
Pointing out that his government had waived off farm loans, he said compared to previous government four time more wheat (32 metric tonnes) was purchased from the farmers.
