Amul to expand network in UP to help milk producers
CM Yogi visits company’s Banas dairy plant, gets assurance in this regard
Amul, which has two modern dairy plants in Uttar Pradesh, will expand its network of buying milk from farmers through cooperatives to other districts, including Varanasi and Gorakhpur, to help producers get a remunerative price of their milk.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), which markets the Amul brand of milk and dairy products, gave a commitment in this regard to chief minister Yogi Adityanath when he made a visit to the company’s ₹250 crore Amul Banas dairy plant at the Chak Gajariya, Sultanpur Road, on Saturday.
The CM was served Amul’s packed ‘lassi’ and ‘chhach’ (butter milk). Company chairman, Shankarbhai Chaudhary, was also present on the occasion.
Spreading over an area of 25 acre of land, the plant will have the capacity of processing 5 lakh litre of milk every day when it gets fully operational. “The 3 lakh milk per day capacity is already operational with the products such as ghee, curd, lassi, chhach and ice cream being produced at the plant,” said Amul managing director RS Sodhi.
Sodhi said the chief minister lauded the plant and assured the company help in setting up similar plants elsewhere in the state.
“Expressing concern over producers not getting proper price of the milk, the CM also asked us to extend our chain of purchasing milk from them through cooperatives,” he said.
The MD said the company was already purchasing milks through the cooperatives in six districts in the state. “We will start doing the same soon in some other districts too including Varanasi and Gorakhpur,” he said.
The then chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, laid the foundation stone of the Chak Gajariya plant in 2013. Amul’s another plant is operational in Kanpur.
