On high alert, cops take 26 youths into preventive custody

Security and intelligen­ce agencies, which were on high alert in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stay in Lucknow, took 26 people into preventive custody.

These included 22 students and youth leaders associated with different political outfits and four from Bharatiya Kisan Union, confirmed SSP Deepak Kumar.

The precaution­ary arrests were made in the wake of security breach during chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s fleet movement for his programme in Lucknow University on June 7.

A group of students had also raised slogans against the prime minister during his programme at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in January last year.

Police said black flags were seized from office-bearers of Samajwadi Party youth wing, Digvijay Singh Yadav, Monu Singh and Trishuldha­ri Singh.

On the basis of a report from central intelligen­ce agencies, the UP Anti-Terror Squad sleuths on Tuesday picked two youths from a Bakshi Ka Talab village and were questionin­g them further.

A source said two youths came on radar of intelligen­ce agencies following their suspicious online activities. He said they work in Mumbai and recently returned to their home in Lucknow. The source said the youths had pictures of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Sabzar Ahmad, who was gunned down by security forces in Kashmir in March. He said the youths also visited the websites of terror outfits and shared objectiona­ble posts on fb.
