Kush Chaurasia, 32, woke up to a shock on Monday morning, when cops from Shahganj came to his house and informed his wife that he was dead!

The police said his family members were required to be at the police station for his postmortem examination.

But the cops were surprised to find the man alive.

On verification, it was found two junior doctors in the emergency ward of SN Medical College had filled the death memo of Chaurasia by mistake after he was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

Chaurasia is a resident of Kedar Nagar in Agra and married to Richa. The couple lives with their daughter. He is yet to come out of the shock news about his ‘death’.

“While I was asleep on Saturday, I felt something moving on me. It thought a snake bit me and thus I went to the emergency ward of SN Medical College. I was given treatment, discharged on Sunday and came back home hale and hearty,” stated Chaurasia.

“On Monday morning, a policeman came from Shahganj police station and informed me about death of my husband, Kush Chaurasia. It came as a shock because my husband was alive and with me at home,” stated Richa Kushwaha.

When the policeman went into details, it was found that a destitute patient had died the same day when Kush Chaurasia was discharged from hospital. But the junior doctors, while filling the details, interchanged the contents and death memo was given to the police in name of Kush Chaurasia.

“The matter was serious and looked into. Prima facie, two junior doctors – Vivek Gautam and Poonam Rabha – were found to be at fault. They have been suspended from clinical work and there will be a probe to reveal correct facts,” stated Dr PK Maheshwari, head of medicine department, SN Medical College.

Later, SNMC principal Dr Saroj Singh constituted a threemember inquiry committee headed by Dr PK Maheshwari to probe into the matter. The other two members of the committee are chief medical superintendent Dr SC Jain and coordinator of emergency department Dr RB Lal.

“After probing the matter, the committee will forward its report in three days,” stated Dr PK Maheshwari.
