GIRL DIES AS IRON GATE OF CM OFFICE BUILDING FALLS ON HER
LUCKNOW : A seven-year-old girl was crushed to death in Lucknow on Wednesday when a 300-kg iron gate came off its hinges at an under-construction building that houses the Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s office. Police said the minor was playing near the gate when the incident occurred at the rear part of the Lok Bhavan, inaugurated by former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav last October. The girl, identified only by her first name Kiran, is the daughter of a woman who is part of the workforce engaged in the building’s construction.
LUCKNOW: A seven-year-old girl got killed as an iron gate came crashing on her in an under construction part of the newly inaugurated ‘Lok Bhawan’ building which houses the chief minister’s office, here on Wednesday morning.
The deceased Kiran was playing near the gate when the incident took place.
She used to stay near the accident site with her mother Amita, who was employed as a labourer in under-construction portion of the building.
The state government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh and constituted a two member committee to probe into the matter. The committee is expected to submit its report within 7 days.
The Rs 602 crore worth building which has come up in 6.3 acres land was inaugurated by former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav in October, 2016. .
However, since the project was incomplete, construction was going on in the rear portion.
The officials said the gate had become weak after the heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning.
“The early morning rain on Wednesday had damaged the hinge of the irongate and it came down crushing when the girl was playing near it. Since the gate weighed over 3 quintals, the girl got badly injured after coming under it,” said Avinish Mishra, circle officer, Hazratganj.
He said the girl was rushed to the civil hospital but was declared brought dead by doctors.
The managing director UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam, RK Goel inspected the spot and directed that security guard should be deployed.
Earlier, two labourers, Rajendra Singh, 40, and Ravi, 25, had died after they fell from the under construction Lok Bhawan building on January 9, 2016.
The then chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had announced a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh each to the families of the two labourers. Other than the relief from the CM, Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (UPRNN), the constructing agency had also issued a fund of ₹ 2 lakh each as immediate relief to the kin of the two deceased.
