Perfect postures of ‘bal yogis’ mesmerise foreigners
VARANASI: When a group of young yoga enthusiasts walked on their hands with perfection on Rajendra Prasad Ghat on Wednesday, a German couple and other foreigners were surprised over the balance and rhythm that they maintained.
These children, who were in the age group of 8 to 12 years, were performing Vrishchikasan which is one of the toughest postures.
Pushpendra Bramhachari (12), Suraj Bramhachari (12) and 20 other young ‘yogis’ have attained expertise in performing tough yoga postures like vrishchikasana, mayurasan, bhujangasana, kurmasan, sheershashan after a rigorous practice of three years. “I started practising yoga when I was just 9. Initially, my guru taught me easy postures like sukhasana and padmasana. Gradually, he introduced me to the tougher ones,” Pushpendra told HT.
“We practice 16 ‘asanas’ daily under the guidance of our teacher,” he said.
Pushpendra added that daily practice of the ‘asanas’ along with ‘pranayam’ and meditation earned them perfection.
These young yoga practitioners are known as ‘batuks’ who study Sanskrit and read all the four Vedas to attain knowledge.
Mareen and Paolo Protto, a couple from Hamburg, Germany, watched the session with surprise. “What a balance have they maintained between their mind and body. I am mesmerised by their perfection in yoga,” they said.
