Actor Anjali cremated, kin allege foul play
ALLAHABAD: Family of Bhojpuri actor Anjali Srivastava, who was found hanging in her Andheri West flat, Mumbai on Monday, alleged foul play behind her death. Body of the actor was flown to Allahabad where her last rites were performed on Wednesday.
Speaking to HT, Anjali’s father Prem Prakash said his daughter had been living in Mumbai for several years. She was getting roles in Bhojpuri movies and albums and had created a place for herself in Bhojpuri film industry. There was no reason she could have taken the extreme step without even leaving a suicide note, he said.
Anjali’s mother took the help of her friend Anamika in Mumbai when her calls to her daughter’s mobile went unanswered for two days. Anamika was suspicious and called Anjali’s landlord. Police opened the door of Anjali’s flat using the other key where her body was found hanging in one of the rooms. “However, Mumbai police was quick to jump to conclusion about suicide even though the circumstances behind her death were suspicious,” said her father. Demanding an investigation into the incident, Prem Prakash said he will approach senior officials of Mumbai police.
Anjali worked in several Bhojpuri movies and albums and was trying for roles in Hindi movies too, said Bhojpuri film producer Rakesh Srivastava.
