Delhi teen killed after stunt goes wrong on bike gifted by family

NEW DELHI: Performing stunts on his new KTM Duke bike claimed thw life of a 15-year-old boy and left his 19-year-old neighbour critically injured in northeast Delhi’s Shastri Park on Sunday.

Police said eyewitness­es told them that the teenager was performing stunts when he lost control and the two fell off. They were taken to a nearby hospital where the rider succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday evening.

A police officer said the boy’s parents had purchased the bike only a fortnight ago. His neighbours told police that a youth in the neighbourh­ood had purchased a KTM bike, which costs more than ₹1.5 lakh in India, a few months back. The boy liked the motorcycle and wanted to get one for himself. He requested his family members to get him a similar racing bike and the family a gifted him one, said police.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Umar Sheikh. Mohammad Anas, 19, injured, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The officer said that Sheikh and Anas left on the motorcycle on Sunday at 7.30pm, and they went towards Kashmere Gate.
