Alvida namaz at the famous Aishbagh Eidgah in Lucknow on Friday would be dedicated to communal harmony.

“We have been witnessing widening gap between Hindus and Muslims. Lucknow’s culture is an example of communal harmony and Islam too teaches us brotherhood. On the last Friday of Ramzan, we will offer special prayers for communal harmony and urge people to do away with bitter thoughts for people of other communities,” said Sunni cleric Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahli who would lead the prayers.

The cleric would also dedicate the prayers for peace in Arab countries and the unrest in Palestine. Rozedars would also be urged to follow the law of zaqat mentioned in Islam. “People don’t follow the law in the right way and thus do not make donations in proportion to their savings. We will appeal to people to do it rightfully as zaqat can help eradicate poverty in India to a great extent,” said Farangi Mahli.

As per Islam, zaqat should be 2.5% of the total savings, he said.

The Eidgah at Aishbagh is likely to witness a congregation of around 15,000 people for the Alvida prayers. Special arrangements for security have been made with the assistance of district administration and police, said the cleric.

Tents and arrangements of water for ‘wazu’ have also been made. “We have tried to make all provisions to ensure that namazis do not face inconvenience due to scorching heat,” he added.

On Eid, the Aishbagh Eidgah witnesses a congregation of around five lakh people every year. Special arrangements for allowing women namazis are also being made for the occasion, he added.

APPEAL FOR STATE HOLIDAY

The cleric said on behalf of the Muslim community he would appeal to the state government to declare state holiday on the last Friday of Ramzan.

While cutting short the list of holidays in UP, the Yogi government had cancelled the holiday for last Friday of Ramzan. For government offices, the day has been put in the restricted holiday list.
