‘Exporting mangoes abroad to be made easier’
In a move to bring maximum benefits to mango growers and educate them how to make their crop presentable, the state department of horticulture and food processing organised a grand ‘mango buyers and sellers meet’ on Thurdsay.
The meet is expected to take mango business to greater heights and would also give an opportunity to local mango growers to market their products in foreign countries, said officials.
“UP farmers work hard, but Maharashtra takes the lead in exporting mangoes. The only difference is lack of channelisation. We are here to channelise the whole process, hence making things easier for the farmers to export mangoes abroad,” said Dara Singh, minister for horticulture, who inaugurated the meet.
The event was organised under the banner of UP State Horticulture Cooperative Marketing Federation (HOFED).
Assuring mango growers of all support from the UP government, he said, “The Yogi government is always ready to lend a helping hand to farmers and facilitate them in different ways.” Over three dozen mango growers participated in the meet.
These included those from Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, West Bengal, Saudi Arabia and some exporters.
The farmers were imparted knowledge on use of pesticides and packaging etc.
Officials with the department said if farmers want to promote their business abroad, they would have to follow international standards in every aspect.
