Yogi asks BJP leaders to inform people about govt’s initiatives
LUCKNOW: Coordination between the party and the government in Uttar Pradesh was among the key points that were discussed at a BJP meeting attended by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday.
Till its big win in 2017 UP polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party had been out of power in the state for 15 years and this was the first occasion in as many years when a BJP CM visited the party office.
Yogi’s visit came six days before his government completes 100 days in office which also provided an occasion to the party to stress on the need for better coordination between the party and the government.
Asking the cadre to take up the responsibility of taking the government programmes to the ground level, Yogi stressed on the need for better relations between the government and cadre.
During his visit to the BJP office, Yogi credited cadre with the successful International Yoga Day event and gave details of what the state government has done in the last three months.
“Our government is devoted to the poor. We will develop more than 24 lakh houses for the poor,” Yogi said in the presence of party’s UP in-charge Om Mathur who said cadres again had the responsibility of winning forthcoming elections – from local bodies to general elections.
Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, as president of the UP BJP, reportedly said in the closed-door meeting that coordination was the key to success.
Maurya said the party cadre would always be accorded top priority in the BJP’s scheme of things. “With the support of the cadre we will increase our vote share from 42% in 2014 Lok Sabha polls to about 60% in 2019 Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
The stress on ‘coordination’ was not without reason.
Despite its brilliant win in UP, the party leadership is looking to continue its success in the upcoming local bodies’ polls as well as the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“We are a cadre-based party and hence the respect of the cadre would be protected at all costs,” a party leader said.
