CHENNAI: Superstar Rajinikanth is all set to jump into the political arena in Tamil Nadu but the timing of his debut is still a mystery.

According to sources close to the actor, Rajinikanth will announce his entry into politics with a brand new party comprising “good people” who are committed to social good and not tainted by corruption.

Among the people whose counsel the actor seeks is Tughlak editor, chartered accountant and right-wing ideologue S Gurumurthy. In a recent TV interview, Gurumurthy declared Rajinikanth’s foray into politics with a party of his own.

The superstar is expected to fill the political vacuum created by the death of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa last year.

At present, he is shooting for his film Kaala and speculations are rife that he will announce his move after the project ends.

Critics, however, are sceptical. They list Rajinikanth’s political inexperience and his apparent reluctance to take up issues as hurdles in the way of his career.

But the new party could enter into an alliance with a national party to tide over the issue of inexperience. “Yes, he will have an alliance with a national party like BJP. Since a man of his stature would be difficult to accommodate within the BJP and he himself could find it awkward, I have advised him against joining the BJP,” Gurumurthy had said.

“Parties like DMDK, MDMK , PMK could face extinction as TN tries out a new leader to lift the state out of the morass,” he said.
