Madiaon horror: Kin reject police theory

The family of 19-yearold woman, who died after being thrown out of a tempo in Madiaon for resisting rape bid, rejected the police theory that the incident was the fallout of a loot attempt.

“If it has been loot than how her purse and mobile phone would have been found at the spot,” said the elder sister of the victim.

Inspector of Madiaon police station had earlier claimed that four people were involved in crime and they tried to snatch the purse and mobile phone of the girl after finding her alone in the tempo.

He said the miscreants pushed her out of the tempo when they found that people were chasing them.

He said the two accused, Sarvesh and Pappu, had been arrested and they had revealed the information during interrogation. He said raids were on for the arrest of remaining accused Sonu and Kishore.

“The two arrested persons have been sent to jail after being produced before the court on Sunday,” he said.

The girl’s mother said the police were relying more on the information given by the accused rather than believing her. She said she saw the tempo near Amrapaali Yojana turn where she was waiting for her daughter.

She said bruises on her daughter’s neck and face hinted at the intention of the culprits.

The incident took place when the woman was returning home at Amrapaali Yojana on IIM Road.

She was held hostage in the moving tempo by four miscreants who allegedly tried to rape her.

They pushed her out of the tempo when a van driver chased them for over three kilometres after being alerted by the girl’s mother. The woman sustained head injuries and died after she fell on the road after being thrown out of the tempo.

TWO CONSTABLES SUSPENDED

Probe into the delayed police action revealed that the victim’s maternal uncle had visited Madiaon police station on Saturday morning to register a case but failed.

The video footage of the CCTV installed at the police station revealed that the victim’s uncle entered the police station premises at 6.11am and left at 6.17am as two constables present at the gate asked him to bring the victim’s parents.

SSP Deepak Kumar said two constables, Sansar Singh and Dharampal Singh, had been suspended and departmental inquiry had been ordered.
