SUDA’s two-room model gets nod, 2 lakh houses to come up
Moving a step forward in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of providing houses to all by 2022, the UP government on Thursday announ ced construction of two lakh ho uses this year under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Each house will have two rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday gave his nod to this model of a two-room house. He examined the model in Jiamau along with urban development minister Suresh Khanna.
State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) has prepared this model which is on 28.09 square metres of land and its carpet area is 21.43 sqm. The cost is Rs 3.34 lakh. However, the chief minister rejected the one-room house model prepared by the Lucknow Development Authority. The LDA’s house was on 23.79 sq m and cost Rs 4.61 lakh.
“LDA’s model has been rejected as it is a one-room house and costs more than the SUDA’s two-room house. It is not possible for a family of three or four people to live in a one-room house,” said a senior LDA official .
This housing scheme has been specially prepared for those who have their own land, SUDA will provide them financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh in three instalments. The first instalment of Rs one lakh will be released when the construction starts work and second instalment of the same amount will be released at the time of roofing of the house.
The third instalment of Rs 50,000 will be released at the time finishing stage . According to state government officials, the government will also provide technical assistance to people at the time of construction of the house and ensure that there was no change in pre-approved design of the house. The Awas Vikas and development authorities may assist beneficiaries in construction work.
At the entrance of every house, there will be a plaque indicating that the house had been constructed under the PM Awas Yojana and a house number indicating beneficiary count. For looking into financial aspects of the project, principal secretary (housing) Mukul Singhal has already talked to nationalized banks to work out modalities.
