Six KGMU hostels asked to clear mosquito breeding sources

LUCKNOW: The King George’s Medical University (KGMU), an institution otherwise known for specialised healthcare services, was on Friday served notices as six hostels on the campus were identified as spots for mosquito breeding.
The office of the chief medical officer (Lucknow) served the notices as part of its drive against vector-borne diseases, after an inspection team informed about the spots conducive for mosquito breeding.
These included TG Hostel, New VL Hostel, Mahamaya Girls’ Hostel, VK hostel, Girls’ Hostel and Old VL Hostel.
In all, 24 places in Lucknow were identified as mosquito breeding spots.
Of these, notices were served to 16, where larvae were spotted (including KGMU hostels). These places were asked to remove stagnant water by Saturday.
The other establishments served notices included SSP, Lucknow office, National PG College, National Inter College, La Place campus, a mall, two hotels in Hazratganj and a police outpost in Madayganj.
The teams inspected coolers, water tanks and all unused items that might have water stored in them after rains.
During the day, separate teams visited four wards and conducted anti-larvae drive in Qadam Rasool ward, Faizullaganj ward, Ayodhyadas ward and Jankipuram-II ward.
Surprise checks would be held at such places till July-end to ensure none of the offices or homes have stagnated water for mosquito breeding.
A fine of ₹5,000 will be slapped if establishments don’t take corrective measures.
