Kashi turns saffron as Shravan begins today

Tight security in place at the Kashi Vishwanath and other temples

With saffron-clad kanwarias coming to Kashi to offer prayers to Baba Kashi Vishwanath on the first Monday of Shravan, the streets leading to Dashashwam­edh Ghat are echoing with Bam Bam Bhole, Om Namah Shivay and Har Har Mahadev chants.

On Sunday, iconic Dashashwam­edh Ghat was flooded with a large number of saffron-robed kanwarias who took holy dip in river Ganga and offered prayers to Baba Kashi Vishwanath.

Administra­tion has put in place tight security arrangemen­ts at the temple in order to ensure security and safety to the huge crowd of devotees and kanwarias in Kashi. The devotees from different parts of the country visit Kashi to offer prayers to Lord Shiva in the holy month of Shravan.

Vishwanath Temple will be thrown open for the devotees at 3.45am, 10 minute in earlier than the routine time. Barricadin­g has been done to maintain queues of the kanwarias and devotees in Godaulia area. City has been divided in five zone and 23 sectors.

A sector magistrate each along with police force will ensure security. Moreover, divisional commission­er Nitin Ramesh Gokarn and district magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and senior superinten­dent of police RK Bhardwaj carried out inspection and reviewed security arrangemen­ts. Tight security arrangemen­ts have been put in place at Lord Shiva’s temples, including Markandey Mahadev, Kedareshwa­r Mahadev, Mahamrityu­njay Mahadev, Trilochan Mahadev, Shootankes­hwar Mahadev, and Sarangnath Mahadev and Vishwanath Temple at BHU.

District magistrate Mishra has instructed all sector magistrate­s to carry out regular patrolling in their respective areas.

Pt Prasad Dixit, one of the trustees of Shri Kashi Vishwanth Mandir Trust, said that this Shravan is special as it comprises five Mondays and is beginning on a Monday. Offering prayers to Baba Kashi Vishwanath in this auspicious month will earn his blessings.
