22 fall ill after drinking spurious tea in Mirzapur

Twenty-two persons including two children fell ill after drinking tea at a tea stall near Chittvishr­am trisection in Ahiraura town of Mirzapur on Sunday morning. They were rushed to primary health centre, Ahiraura from where one has been referred to BHU as his condition turned critical.

Police said Ramashish owns a tea stall that operates round the clock. At around 5 am on Sunday, locals gathered at the stall and placed order for tea. Soon after drinking tea, 22 persons one after another felt giddy. Kanhaiya Lal, a truck driver, who drank tea before all of them, fell unconsciou­s.

Police said one of the locals called up police at dial 100. Soon police reached the spot and rushed all 22 persons to the primary health centre where they were given treatment. While condition of others improved, Kanhaiya turned critical. Doctors referred Kanhaiya to BHU.

Confirming this, chief medical officer (CMO), Mirzapur, Dr Vidhu Gupta told HT of the 22 people, 21 were discharged while one was referred to BHU.

He further said the milk used for making tea might have been contaminat­ed that caused infection.

Samples of milk have been collected and sent for examinatio­n.

THE POLICE REACHED THE SPOT AND RUSHED ALL 22 PERSONS TO THE PHC WHERE THEY WERE GIVEN TREATMENT.
