29 teams to play in district football league from Friday

LUCKNOW : It’s a reunion of football supporters for the betterment of the game in the state capital. Kanhaya Lal-led district football associatio­n has accommodat­ed the rival faction after a gap of three years, and now the official football league-2017, would be played both the at Chowk stadium and Dilkusha ground here. As many as 29 teams, including defending champions Army Medical Corps and runners-up Sahara Estates, on Sunday were drafted in six different pools, matches of which would be played at the Chowk stadium from July 14. The matches of two different pools would start on July 16, at the Dilkusha ground. Teams for the Chowk-leg of the event include, AMC, Kurmanchal FC, Avadh Club, Vijay Club, Castle FC, Mamta Sporting, RA Boys, Police Boys (Black), Shiv Football Academy, UFC Aliganj, City Club, Aliganj Sporting, TGFC, Sports College ‘B’, Sunrise Academy, Sahara Estates, Golden Boys, RDSO, SBI, Police Boys, Sports College ‘A’, Integral XI, Lucknow Postal, Chowk Sporting, SWAT Club, Sunrise, RBI, UPP and Man United.

Pawan Batham (4.5 pts) emerged victorious in the open category of the Pt Adhir Dube Memorial Chess Tournament here on Sunday. Sunil Kumar, Arjun Singh and KK Khare with four points each finished second, third and fourth, respective­ly. In under -16 category Pranju and in under-12 category Saksham Mishra finished top.

As many as five players from Uttar Pradesh, including Prashant Kumar Chauhan, Faraz, Vishal Singh, Shivam Anand and Rahul Kumar Rajbhar have been selected for the junior men national coaching camp, beginning Monday, at Bengaluru.

FINE SHOW

Lucknow shuttlers hogged the limelight at the east Zone Inter State Senior and Junior selection badminton tournament, winning six titles at Moradabad. Amolika Singh won girls under-19 and women’s singles crowns in style. First she defeated Simran Chaudhary of Moradabad 21-10, 21-6 in the under-19 final, before outplaying Richa Yadav of Allahabad 21-11, 21-11 in the women’s final.

The duo of Samridhi Singh and Shruti Mishra won both girls under-19 and women’s doubles titles. Ahyansh Singh had the boys u-19 crown, defeating Siddhant Salar 21-9, 21-12, whereas Aakash Yadav and Harsh Singh of Aligarh wrested the boys doubles title. Brijesh Yadav and Tushar Sharma knocked down Ravindra Singh and Subham Yadav 21-18, 21-17 in a thriller.
