The first week of Wimbledon has been a roller-coaster ride. From freak inujuries to shocking upsets and even some out of line comments that led to criticism, heavy fines and sponsors dropping a ‘bored’ player, seven days of Wimbledon have not played along expected lines. HT takes a look at the highlights

DAY 1 Monday, July 3

Fifth seed STAN WAWRINKA, a three-time Grand Slam champion, lost 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-1 to Russian Daniil Medvedev in the first round. Spaniard CARLA SUAREZ NAVARRO beat former Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard of Canada 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 to reach the second round.

MUM'S THE WORD:Luxembourg's MANDY

MINELLA announced she was four and half months pregnant after losing in the first round to Francesca Schiavone.

DAY 2 Tuesday, July 4

Australian ARINA RODIONOVA upset 16th seed Russian ANASTASIA PAVLYUCHEN­KOVA 3-6 7-6(8) 9-7 in the first round. Australian DARIA GAVRILOVA, the 20th seed, lost to Croatian qualifier PETRA MARTIC 6-4 2-6 10-8 in the first round.

BERNIE GETS BORED: Australia's BERNARD TOMIC admitted he had lost all motivation after losing to Germany's Mischa Zverev. Tomic was fined $15,000 for "unsportsma­nlike conduct" and dropped by racquet sponsor Head.

DAY 3 Wednesday, July 5

Twice champion,

Petra Kvitova was knocked out in the second-round match by American Madison Brengle 6-3, 1-6 6-2.

BUGS' LIFE: Plagued by an invasion of flying ants, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga admitted one of the bugs flew up his nose and another into his ear. America's Sam Querrey felt the insects were distractin­g his game.

DAY 4 Thursday, July 6

Third seed and pre-tournament favourites KAROLINA PLISKOVA suffered a shock exit in the second round, losing 3-6 7-5 6-2 to world number 87 Magdalena Rybarikova. World number 589 Ernests Gulbis knocked out 2013 semi-finalist Juan Martin Del Potro 6-4 6-4 7-6(3). Big-serving American John Isner lost to Israel's Dudi Sela 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 5-7 7-6(5) 6-3 after almost four hours.

MATTEK-SANDS' INJURY: America's Bethanie Mattek

Sands suffered a horror injury which left her screaming in pain. Her opponent Romania's Sorana Cirstea said medical help wasn't prompt enough, which the organisers denied. The courts came under fire when French player Kristina Mladenovic slated the Court 18 surface after her defeat by American Alison Riske. Mladenovic said she and Riske had both asked not to play on the court after the first two games.

DAY 5 Friday, July 7

Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut beat ninth seed KEI NISHIKORI of Japan 6-4, 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-3 after three hours and 20 minutes.

DAY 6 Saturday, July 8

Adrian Mannarino outlasted fellow Frenchman and 15th seed Gael Monfils 7-6(3), 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 after three hours and 29 minutes.
