Muzaffarnagar police detain LeT operative’s mother, sisterinlaw
The local police swung into action soon after their Jammu & Kashmir counterparts busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module.
A police team raided the house of Sandeep Sharma alias Adil in New Ankit Vihar area and took his mother Premwati, 60, and his sister-in-law Rekha in custody.
Sources said police have also arrested Sandeep’s cousin, with whom he had left Delhi four years ago, from Morna area of Muzaffarnagar on Monday evening.
Earlier in the day, as the Muzaffarnagar police came to know about Sandeep’s arrest in J-K, SSP Anant Dev Tiwari deputed teams to trace out the family.
Police reached Sandeep’s native village Mustafabad on the outskirts of Muzaffarnagar where the villagers informed them that the family did not have any link with the village as they had disposed of their house seven years ago.
Villagers said the family of Ramesh Sharma, the father of Sandeep, had migrated from the village about 15 years ago. After the death of Ramesh Sharma, the family started living at a rental accommodation in New Ankit Vihar Colony in Muzaffarnagar.
The police searched Sandeep’s house in Muzaffarnagar and detained his mother and sister-inlaw. Officers of local Intelligence unit and the police are interrogating them. They have also contacted Haridwar police to bring Sandeep’s brother Praveen, who runs a taxi there, to Muzaffarnagar. The SSP said Sandeep had no criminal history in Muzaffarnagar and left for J&K with a contractor three years back.
“He did not return since then but stayed in touch with his family over the phone. He last contacted his brother Praveen four months ago and told him that he had got a job in Kashmir,” he said.
