NEW DELHI : A lot of professionals often rely on their personal smartphone for checking official emails, financial transactions and working on collaboration apps such as Slack or Flock. Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service can provide an additional layer of security to these communications. VPN creates a secure network connection over a public network. For this redirects all traffic through an encrypted virtual tunnel, which not only keeps all communications secure but also masks your IP address. Here are some of the VPN services which you can try right away.

TUNNEL BEAR (ANDROID, IOS)

Tunnel Bear uses 256-bit encryption to secure traffic and has servers in over 20 countries. It can be accessed for free, but with a data cap of 500MB per month. For unlimited access it charges a subscription fee of ₹360 per month for one device. For multiple devices the subscription fee is ₹650 per month. Free users can cut down on data use with the Split Bear feature. It allows users to use VPN service for selected apps only. Another feature called Vigilant Bear stops traffic if the connection to the Tunnel bear server is disrupted.

OPERA VPN (ANDROID, IOS)

Opera VPN provides unlimited access to its VPN services for free. It doesn’t ask users to create an account or login to use the app. As of now it supports only five virtual locations and is not as quick in terms of browsing as Tunnel Bear. However, it has a lot of additional features. For example, the Guardian can prevent ad trackers from spying on you. The Wi-Fi Test tool can scan a Wi-Fi network and give it a score based on how good and secure it is to use.

F-SECURE FREEDOME VPN (ANDROID, IOS)

F-Secure Freedome keeps your online communication secure using AES 256-bit encryption. It offers a five day free trial, after which user have to opt for one of its subscription plans. The monthly subscription starts at ₹440 and annual subscription costs ₹2,100. The app also prevents websites from tracking your data and shows which websites are trying to track your data on a real time map. It can also double up as an anti-virus app and can be sued to identify apps which pose a privacy or security risk.

TURBO VPN (ANDROID, IOS)

Turbo VPN is similar to Opera VPN in many ways. It is free to download and doesn’t require users to sign up and create an account. What separates the two is its cleaner layout, access to more servers, faster browsing speed and presence of advertisements. Users can manually connect to a server which is offering the best internet speed. The fastest server shows at the top of the list. The interface shows a rabbit in sitting position when the VPN is active. When disconnected the rabbit is shown in the standing position. This way a user can instantly tell when the VPN is not working.
