SP stages walkout in Vidhan Parishad

- HT Correspondent letters@hindustantimes.com

The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday staged a walkout from the Vidhan Parishad demanding the release of 14 Lucknow University (LU) students who were booked for breaching the security of chief minister Yogi Adityanath by blocking his route and showing black flags on June 7. The SP members staged another walkout after they were not satisfied with the government’s reply to their question on why roads were not made pothole-free by June 15 as promised by it.

Raising the matter under the Rule 105, the SP’s Sunil Kumar Singh Sajan, Anand Bhadauria, Naresh Uttam, Rajesh Yadav and others said the harassment of students had increased in a big way ever since the BJP government had come to power in the state. Citing a specific case, they said, on June 7 the police registered criminal cases against 14 LU students sending them to jail.

The students, they pointed out, were merely trying to protest peacefully against the financial irregularities in the university by showing black flags to the CM who was to attend a function in the university as a chief guest that day. They demanded all the criminal cases against the students be withdrawn and their suspension from the university be rolled back.

All the SP members staged a walk out from the house in a huff after the chair did not agree to their demand to allow debate.

The SP staged another walkout over potholed roads in the state. Intervening into the matter, leader of the house, Dinesh Sharma said while the government was trying its best to repair all the roads.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) accused the government of neglecting the parks and monuments made during its regime.

BUDGET DISAPPOINTING

Participating in the post-lunch debate on the general budget, leader of the opposition and SP member, Ahmad Hasan said the BJP government’s very first budget was awfully disappointing.
