Despite trailing, Aliganj Sporting notch up thrilling victory

LUCKNOW:Staging a superb comeback from behind, Aliganj Sporting scored a thrilling 2-1 win against City Club to collect full points in the District Football League-2017, at the Chowk Stadium here on Sunday.

Izhaan put the City Club ahead in the 10th minute after dodging a bunch of rival defenders, but even a sincere effort from the winners in the first half failed to make any difference.

A change in ends brought a sudden change in the game as Milan struck the equalizer in the 45th minute (1-all), before Akash netting the match-winner in the 58th minute.

Things didn’t change much in the second match of the day as RA Boys defeated Shiv Football Academy in a similar manner. Tarnam put the losers ahead in the 15th minute (1-0), but thereafter it was RA Boys all over. Kamal drew parity in the 30th minute (1-all), whereas Pratikar netted back-to-back goals in the 50th and 53rd minutes to take the score to 3-1, before Santosh scoring in the 62nd minute (4-1).

The opening match in the Dilikusha-leg of the District Football League between Cantt Boys and Deccan 11 ended in a goalless draw. In the second match too, Avadh Club and Kurmanchal Club too split points, playing 1-1 draw.

SCHOOL CHESS

An Inter-School Chess Championsh­ip is going to be held here from July 18 to 20, at the Shivani Public School. So far, 500 students from different schools have confirmed their participat­ion. Now, the last date of entry has been extended to July 17.

OPEN CHESS

Kabeer Jaiswal emerged victorious in the open category of the Sunday Chess Tournament with four points here. Mayank finished runners-up. Tejasv Singh in under-16 category, and Dhairyash Dhruv in under-12 category finished top.

SELECTED

Archana Pandey of Lucknow has been selected to represent India in the 23rd Deaf Olympics Table Tennis to be held at Samsun, Turkey from July 18 to 30. Archana won a bronze medal at the recently concluded National Table Tennis Games of Deaf at Chennai.

EASY WIN

Yorker Cricket Club defeated Lucknow Cricketers by 88 runs in a league match of the Under-16 cricket tournament, at the Christian College ground here on Sunday.

BRIEF SCORES

YCC 122 in 26.5 overs (Nawab 41, Pawan Kumar 3 for 7, Salman 2 for 14, Fahad 2 for 27) beat Lucknow Cricketers 34 in 24.4 overs (Nawab 3 for one, Akash 2 for four, Satwik Singh 2 for five).

T20 CRICKET

Yorker Club beat Forensis Club by five wickets in a league match of Anwar Memorial Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, at the Pt Ras Behari Tiwari stadium here on Sunday.

BRIEF SCORES

Forensis Club 79 in 16 overs (Ajay 18, Satwik Singh 2 for 11, Abhishek Yadav 2 for 22) lost to Yorker Club 83 for five in 15 overs (Aniket Yadav 2 for 23).

NEW FACES

Secretary of Kanpur Hockey, TP Singh, KB Rawat of Varanasi and Lalita Pradeep of Lucknow were three new faces, who got nominated as vice-president in the UP Hockey at its election for the next year years here on Sun- day. Rakesh Katyal, RP Singh and Laiq Ahmed were retained s president, secretary and treasurer, respective­ly. UP Olympic Associatio­n’s general secretary Anandeshwa­r Pandey too was re-elected as senior vicepresid­ent.
