TCS employees plan to meet Rajnath
The employees feel as Lucknow is his constituency, he should do something to stop the IT major’s shift
LUCKNOW: Employees of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will soon meet union home minister Rajnath Singh to tell him about the adverse effects of the company’s decision to shift 2,000 of its staff members to other centres.
“It is his constituency, so Rajnath Singh must help retain the company in Lucknow. It is not just a matter of internal transfer, it is a big blow to Brand Lucknow and dent in the city’s pride,” said an employee.
Caught in the pressure tactics of the company management and inaction of the state government, the employees of software major TCS are under heavy stress.

Caught in the pressure tactics of the company management and inaction of the state government, the employees of software major TCS are under heavy stress. An employee told HT on condition of anonymity, “The employees have been told by the management to get prepared for transfer within two weeks.. If union home minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh and chief minister Yogi Adityanath do not act fast, everything will be lost. Our families are under severe stress as our kids will have to search for schools in mid-session.”
When Hindustan Times contacted Diwakar Tripathi (representative of home minister Rajnath Singh in Lucknow) for Singh’s comments on the TCS issue, Tripathi said that the home minister had been informed about the matter and was doing his bit to stop TCS shifting as he did not want any job loss in the state capital.
However, Tripathi said he would only be able to elaborate further on the matter when he got more information from the home minister.
Meanwhile, TCS employees have an option as HCL is reportedly going to start recruitments on its Lucknow campus after August 4.
IT city was developed with an investment of Rs 1,500 crore by HCL during the regime of Akhilesh Yadav. Here a training centre is already working. Now the company is poised to start full fledged software development in the centre. So TCS’ shift from Lucknow would be HCL’s gain.
However, TCS employees still feel that the state government could have done more to stop TCS from leaving Lucknow.
The industrial policy of the state has just been announced which claims to promote employment but if 2,000 jobs are lost in the state capital, it would raise a big question mark over the new policy.
TCS is starting operations in Indore, Bhuvaneshwar and Noida and is also opening call centres in Varanasi and Patna . That is why decision to close down Lucknow unit is being questioned.
