Model classroom in Kashi village to bring back school dropouts
Three BHU students under the guidance of a varsity professor have developed a model classroom in a government primary school, Kurhuwan in Varanasi. The classroom is equipped with a mini library comprising books of inspirational and moral stories.
Classroom’s four walls are painted with maps, alphabets, numbers, trees and legendary figures. The model classroom is aimed at generating interest of tiny tots in studies who drop school midway for some or the other reason.
The students turned the classroom into a model one within a fortnight. Prof Alok Kumar Pandey of economics departmant , BHU, who guided the students, said, “This is an effort to make classroom learning innovative and attractive so that the tiny tots who dropped out of the school return to the classroom.”
Pandey said if model classroom yields desired results, such classrooms would be developed in few other schools in near future. The team, in association with Dr Manish Arora, coordinator of design and innovation centre at BHU, designed the project and implemented it in June.
Model classroom has been developed under Samarth Gram Abhiyan (self-sufficient and sustainable village campaign) by BHU under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. BHU has adopted 100 villages under the project SGA one year ago. It provides fund for the initiative. The centre for integrated rural development monitors the project and spread awareness about importance of cleanliness with special focus on education. Three students, Abhishek Jha, Gaurav Singh and Rahul Kumar, who recently completed their post graduation in rural development at the varsity, played a proactive role in making of a model classroom.
Village head Anil Kumar Pandey said that the model classroom facility has very positive effect on children. They are eager to go to school because of the model classroom. Many children are keen on going to the school because of story books they get there.
