NEET: Relaxation of counselling norms in the offing
Some provisions for the second round of counselling for candidates who passed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) might be relaxed.
The decision has been taken in view of the difficulties that the candidates faced during the first round of counselling especially during the registration and allotment process.
“We are in the process of relaxing some of the norms,” said Dr KK Gupta, director general medical education. He said they could do away with verification of documents which could be done at the college level at the time of admission. In fact if it is done during counselling the college does it again, he added.
Candidates informed the officials about the difficulties they faced due to verification of documents and online counselling which was introduced for the first time in the state.
Keeping in mind the complaints of the candidates, the directorate has decided on number of procedural relaxations. Though the final decision is yet to be taken but it is likely that all major issues will be covered.
The first round of counselling is over and admissions on 1604 seats have been done. The second round of counselling will begin from August 18.
A meeting on the issue is likely to be held by the first week of August and the relaxations will be announced before the second round of counselling.
