Paying tributes to the martyrs, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said institutions across UP would be renamed after war heroes. He also stated that UP Sainik School would be rechristened in the name of Kargil martyr and Paramvir Chakra awardee, Captain Manoj Pandey.
Governor Ram Naik along with Lieutenant General Jagdeep Kumar Sharma, Chief of Staff, Central Command, accompanied by officers and soldiers of Lucknow Garrison paid tribute and laid wreaths at the war memorial amidst patriotic tunes played by the military band.
ELSEWHERE IN THE COUNTRY: The Army paid a glowing tribute to the soldiers in poignant ceremonies across Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief of the Army’s Northern Command, Lt Gen Devraj Anbu, laid a wreath at the war memorial in Drass sector on the occasion.
LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said that institutions across UP would be renamed after war heroes. He also announced the rechristening of UP Sainik School in the name of Kargil martyr and Paramvir Chakra awardee, Captain Manoj Pandey.
“The ultimate sacrifice given by brave soldiers to safeguard the territorial integrity of the nation will never be forgotten,” said Yogi Adityanath at Kargil Shahid Smriti Vatika, on occasion of the Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Governor Ram Naik and the chief minister paid floral tributes to Kargil martyrs at their statues.
The chief minister also underlined the need for students to be educated and informed about various aspects of nationalism.
“Along with education, students should also be provided information that is motivating and about patriotism...this strengthens the feeling of patriotism in the new generation,” he said.
While Yogi assured all possible help to the families of martyrs, governor Ram Naik felicitated the kin of Kargil war and Kakori train tragedy martyrs.
Earlier in the day, a grand wreath-laying ceremony was also organised at Smritika in Cantonment. Floral tributes and patriotic tunes marked the occasion.

Naik saluted the martyrs when the ‘Last Post’ was sounded and a two-minute silence was observed.
Family members of Kargil War martyrs, veterans and ‘veer naris’ (of Kargil War) were also felicitated on the occasion.
