LUCKNOW: A probe has been ordered by the additional chief secretary (ACS), medical education, as several candidates who submitted security money in the 2016 medical counselling and could not get a seat, are yet to get the refund.

On Wednesday, ACS Anita Bhatnagar Jain asked the director general of medical education (DGME) to conduct a probe and find why the security money was not yet returned to such candidates.

In all, 3339 candidates were to get the refund but only 1254 were received the money which summed to Rs6.27 crore.

Taking serious note of the issue, Bhatnagar held a meeting and asked the officials to speed up the process after which 1132 more candidates got the refund which summed to Rs5.56 crore. But an amount of Rs5.34 crore is yet to be refunded amongst 953 candidates. Bhatnagar has asked the DGME to ensure that such candidates get the refund within a week.

Besides, the money for the NEET PG counseling-2017 will be returned by August 18. A sum of Rs 53.15 crore is to be distributed amongst 1063 candidates who applied in government colleges. Also, Rs6.94 crore is to be refunded to 694 candidates who applied in private colleges.

“From now onwards, the candidates who do not get a seat will be returned the security money within three weeks,” said Bhatnagar.
