Aligarh cash van loot: 6 of 10 accused arrested
ALIGARH: The police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the cash van loot that took place near ICICI bank ATM at Dhanipur Mandi here on July 17. Rs 34 lakh was looted by bike-borne armed miscreants, who also shot dead the guard, Rakesh Mishra, and injured custodian Kalimuddin.
SSP Rajesh Pandey said, “Ten criminals were involved in it, and we have arrested six. Police also recovered around Rs 6 lakh cash and six weapons from them. We are now looking for the remaining four.”
Cops said the accused men’s reasons to participate in the crime included getting money to be able to marry, buying a house, and purchasing a bike.
The six arrested were identified as Sonu Chaudhary of Dhakpura(Gonda), Rajat Sharma of Gandhi Park (Aligarh), Dipak Thakur alias Abhishek alias Hanuman of Thakur Basti Chowk (Dhanipur), Arun Raghav alias Tauri of Talaspur, Adesh alias Rocky of Vikas Lok (Dhanipur), and Mohit of Teachers’ Colony (Dhanipur).
The other accused are: Sumit Chaudhry of Kawarasi, Vikas of Harchandrapur Ahmadgarh (Bulandshahr), Gopal alias Sandip of Ganga Palace (Dhanipur), and Lalit of Thakur wala mohalla (Dhanipur).
“Adesh has a dhaba in front of the ATM. He was giving the gang information about the movement of the cash van. The group conducted a recce for around 10 days. Rajat was the mastermind. The men used Sumit’s flat in Annapuram Colony on Ramghat road to finalise the plan,” said the SSP.
Cops said Sonu had fired the first shot at the guard, while Vikas had fired the second shot. Vikas had also hit Kalimuddin with his pistol butt.
