YOGI GOVT MOVES 12 BILLS TO REFORM LABOUR LAWS
In a major move, the Yogi Adityanath government introduced 12 bills proposing amendments to existing laws concerning employment and labour providing for fixing time limit for raising industrial disputes, allowing working of women in night shifts in factories , shops and commercial establishments, remove gender based discrimination in payment of wages and compounding of small offences etc.
Under the proposed amendments, the state government also proposes to fix a time limit for raising industrial disputes, increase retrenchment compensation to employees, relaxing provisions relating to overtime and exempt small establishments and contractors from provisions of the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970.
Minister for labour Swami Prasad Maurya introduced the bills one after the other in the state assembly on Wednesday.
The bills introduced included the Industrial Employment (Standing Order) (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill 2017, the Factories (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2017, the Uttar Pradesh Dookan Aur Vanijaya Adhisthan (Sansodhan) Vidheyak, 2017 that provides for permitting women in night shifts and fixing timeline for registration and renewal etc. The Minimum Wages (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2017 has been introduced to ensure payment of wages by cheque or other banking instruments, NEFT and RTGS etc. “The Payment of Wages (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2017 also provides for payment of wages by cheques and other banking instruments and compounding of small offences.”
