Med trader shot at in moving car, critical
LUCKNOW A 32-year-old medicine trader Mukesh Mishra was shot at and injured in his moving car by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants near Delhi Public School (DPS) in Janakipuram here on Thursday midnight.
He suffered bullet wounds in his head and right hand and was undergoing treatment in KG Medical University’s trauma centre, where his condition is stated to be critical.
Initial probe revealed that Mishra was attacked near the DPS when he was returning home in his Alto car after closing his medicine shop in Janakipuram at around 11.45pm. Some of the pavement dwellers told the cops that they rushed towards the car after hearing gunshots and saw two motorcycle-borne assailants fleeing from the spot. They said the car rammed against the divider after speeding for a few metres.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP), trans-Gomti, Harendra Kumar said the assailants might have been following Mishra and opened fire at a deserted stretch near the DPS. He said Mishra might have tried to accelerate but lost control after being hit by the bullets and rammed into the divider.
The ASP said a local woman Rekha, who stayed near the spot, informed the victim’s family. He said the family members and others initially believed that Mishra got injured in an accident and rushed to the trauma centre.
He said the family later came to know about the firing when a bullet was shown stuck in his head after a CT scan at the trauma centre.
The police suspected personal enmity behind the attack. The victim’s three brothers, Karunesh, Rakesh and Ram Suman, however, have denied his enmity with anyone. They said an ATM card and ₹ 35,000 were found missing.
The police are further probing the matter after registering an FIR of attempt to murder against unidentified assailants.
