LUCKNOW: Vidhan Sabha speaker Hriday Narayan Dixit on Friday blamed the opposition parties for the standoff with the ruling party in the state legislative assembly.

Dixit said at a press conference: “I urged the leaders of the SP, BSP, the Congress and the RLD to attend a meeting of the business advisory committee to resolve the deadlock with the ruling party. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath was also present but the opposition leaders boycotted the meeting. Had the opposition leaders participated in the meeting, they would have resolved the issue with the leader of the House.”

The allegation of the leader of the opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary that the mike was switched off while he was speaking on the floor of the House is baseless, said Dixit. “I took up another topic for discussion and the minister concerned started speaking. Chaudhary did not take his seat and continued speaking,” he said. He also dismissed the opposition’s allegation that they were not given ample time to speak or express their views on the floor of the House. Armed with data, Dixit said the opposition boycotted the assembly proceedings for five of the 11 days for which the budget session of the House was held.

“The strength of the opposition is 18.6% of the total strength of the members. I gave adequate time to the SP, BSP and Congress leaders. This can be gauged from the fact that they consumed 36% of the time. The strength of the ruling party is 80.64% but they got 20.26% time.
