Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Shivpal Singh Yadav has said that split in the first family of the party can be stemmed only if its president Akhilesh Yadav wishes so.

“Everything is now in the hands of Akhilesh. If he wishes everything can be fine and come into a proper order. Netaji (SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav) should be given control of the party,” the senior SP leader told media persons at the house of an SP leader in Azamgarh on Friday.

“Akhilesh should accept leadership of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav to save the party. Hope, Akhilesh will think in this direction,” he added.

“There is a deep disappointment among the youths in the party. As soon as Netaji is given proper respect and leadership of the party, the disappointment will dissolve. The youths will start working with a fresh zeal. By passing on the leadership to Netaji, Akhilesh can save the party,” the former UP minister said. He, however, added that if he (Akhilesh) didn’t do so, the party might split.

Shivpal is in Azamagh as part of his month-long statewide tour to seek opinion of his supporters and party youths on various issues. He said after the conclusion of the tour, he would reach on any conclusion. As of now, he was busy uniting people associated with the socialist ideology.

Shivpal also met a number of socialist leaders there.
